Wayfering 009 :: Weekend in Cape Cod

Being the third weekend of August (where is this summer going?), a dear long time friend of mine and I decided to head to the cape for the weekend. We both needed a little mini-vacation away from home and embracing what summer is about: beach, seafood, and relaxed fun. Since we are laid-back, go with the flow type of people, we saw a few interesting things along the way to the Cape.

Town of Sandwich Boardwalk
(It looks just a tad sketchy, but the beach at the end is worth it!)

Sandwich Glass Museum - Vase making demonstration

Brunch at Cafe Chew
Local favorite (got packed around 10) French toast and salads are delicious and generous in portions compared to price.
Once we reached mid-Cape and got a short information session from one of the park rangers at the Salt Pond Visitor's Center, we decided to head to Coast Guard Beach to catch a glimpse of the seals.

They piled together on top of that land mass close to the shore and the sunset is gorgeous.

Of course heading to the Cape means stopping by Provincetown.

Lunch at the Pier

Highly, highly recommend Two Sister's Southern BBQ. The chicken was moist, the brisket was cooked to perfection, and the sauces were amazing. Their sweetened iced tea is also delicious!

Provincetown Marina
After eating so much, we decided to also visit one of the other popular beaches around the hostel we stayed at: Nauset Light Beach

Arnold's Lobster and Clam Bar was so good that we went there for dinner both days we spent there! The lobster and raw bar are fresh daily. The only little con is that they are cash only, but it's well worth the trip to the ATM!

Even though I've lived in Massachusetts my entire life, I've never been to the Cape and never made the effort to because I personally didn't see the appeal of going so far for the beach. But I decided to explore what's around me and am glad I did. Even if it was just to get away for the weekend, Cape Cod had a lot to offer in terms of a little tranquility and amazing seafood. The hostel we stayed at (Hostel International - Eastham, highly recommend) was very relaxed and welcoming at a great location. It was also great just to get away with a great friend. It made karaoke-ing the whole trip to throwbacks from high school all the more fun. It reminds me how grateful I am for what I have and the people in my life.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!
